SMS Consent & Messaging Terms
Effective: April 15, 2026
Overview
HappyShift is a workforce scheduling platform for licensed home care agencies. When a caregiver cancels a scheduled shift, our AI agent Sloan sends SMS notifications to other eligible caregivers on the agency's roster to offer the open shift. This page explains how we collect consent, what messages you will receive, and how to opt out.
Who receives messages
HappyShift sends SMS messages only to caregivers (W-2 employees or 1099 contractors) employed by licensed home care agencies that use the HappyShift platform. We do not send messages to patients, clients, or members of the general public. No protected health information is ever included in any message.
How caregivers opt in
When a licensed home care agency hires a caregiver, the agency collects the caregiver's mobile phone number and obtains verbal or written consent to receive shift notifications as part of the caregiver's employment onboarding. The agency then adds the caregiver to HappyShift and attests that consent has been collected.
Before any shift offers are sent, HappyShift sends a single confirmation message to the caregiver:
The caregiver must reply Y before any further messages are sent. If the caregiver does not reply, no shift offers are sent. This double opt-in step ensures every recipient has explicitly confirmed they want to receive SMS notifications from HappyShift.
Verbal consent script
When consent is collected verbally during onboarding or a scheduling phone call, the agency coordinator uses the following script before any SMS messages are sent:
Coordinator script:
If the caregiver agrees, the coordinator confirms:
If the caregiver declines, the coordinator marks that the caregiver does not consent to SMS outreach, and no text messages are sent through HappyShift.
Each verbal opt-in is recorded with the caregiver's name, mobile phone number, consent status, the date and time consent was collected, the source of consent (verbal onboarding or scheduling call), and the staff member who collected it. Only caregivers who have consented receive outbound SMS, and any caregiver who replies STOP or otherwise revokes consent is immediately removed from SMS outreach.
What messages you will receive
Once opted in, caregivers receive transactional SMS messages related to shift scheduling. These include:
- Open shift offers when a caregiver cancels and you are eligible for the replacement shift
- Shift confirmation messages when you accept a shift
- Shift reminders and updates
Example open shift message:
Message frequency
Message frequency varies and is driven entirely by scheduling events at your employer agency. On average, caregivers receive between 1 and 10 messages per week depending on how often shifts become available. HappyShift does not send marketing messages, promotional offers, or advertising of any kind.
Message & data rates
Message and data rates may apply based on your mobile carrier plan. HappyShift does not charge caregivers to receive messages.
How to opt out
You can opt out of all HappyShift SMS messages at any time by replying STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT to any message you receive. After opting out, you will receive a single confirmation message and no further messages will be sent.
